Sony to Spin off Audiovisual Business for Profitability
February 20, 2015
Sony plans to spin off its audiovisual business into a wholly owned subsidiary as part of the company's efforts to seek revival and profitability, reported Nikkei on February 19. The audio and video business, including Walkman brand, Blu-ray Disc players and other peripherals, is expected to be turned into a stand-alone business in October 1 this year. The parent company will remain in charge of planning and R&D. Last year, the company hived off its TV business and its Vaio PC unit. Sony aims for an ROE (Return on Equity) of more than 10% in fiscal year 2017.
